Students in grade 3 and 4 have begun to add notation to the songs that we have been learning. Many of us are realizing that it's not quite as simple as putting notes on a page.

Our learning intention for Buster Brown was to demonstrate our understanding of quarter notes (ta), eighth notes (ti-ti) and quarter rests (ta rest). The activity was broken down into the following steps.

1. Clap and sing the rhythm with a partner.

2. Add the rhythm: ta, ti-ti and rest. 3. Label the beats.

4. Add the time signature.

Next week, we will begin to add bar lines.
